A.     Annual Conference Recap

YP members were very active at this past years annual conference; more so than ever before.  We had several members involved with the technical sessions as moderators and presenters.

In addition, the YPC organized the banquet mixer on the harbor boat cruise and also the poker tournament, which followed dinner.  Both events went very well and a special thank you goes out to Lisa Vollbrecht and Jason Janisch for their leadership.  These two events really brought the YPC to the attention of the entire section.  YPC is a relatively new group within the MN AWWA section and these events were a great way to bring attention to our group, and more importantly, our initiatives.  Many section members were very impressed.

The poker tournament raised $800 for the David B. Morris scholarship fund.  The YPC will hold another poker tournament at next year’s conference.  Jason Janisch agreed to head this sub-committee.

The YPC also held the first annual Fresh Ideas Poster Competition.  Thank you to Brad and Chris for leading this initiative.  YP’s very own Bo Johnston was the winner and presented during one of the technical sessions.  The YPC will hold the second annual Poster Competition this coming year.  All members are eligible to enter a poster and/or encourage others to submit entries.  The YPC is lobbying the MN Section to get funding to send the winner to the next AWWA Association-level Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE).

B.     Community Service Project

1)        World of Water Student Poster Competition – Public Outreach Goal for 2007.  We are trying to get the Poster Competition underway this year.  The idea is to have grade-school aged kids create posters or drawings related to water.  Drawings would be submitted to the YPC, and a winner(s) of cash prize(s) chosen.  Depending on how many posters are received, the idea was brought up that we could put together a calendar with every month highlighting one of the drawings.  This could be a future fund raising opportunity.  Brian Zinnel will check with Brent Massmann and Aleisha Kiley (the sub-committee leaders) to see where the Competition stands.

           V.      New Business

·  Host 3 social events.

·  Hold the poker tournament at the Annual Conference.

·  Hold the Fresh ideas poster session at the annual conference.

·  Develop and hold the student Poster/Drawing Competition.

C.     Workgroup Chair Reports

1)        Membership (Todd Butz) –Todd agreed to head this committee again this year.  The primary goal of the membership committee is to contact and recruit younger individuals in the water industry.  Todd is organizing a group panel of individuals in the water industry to talk to either high schools and/or college students regarding career paths.  Members interested in assisting in the panel should contact Todd.  Bo Johnston has contacts at the University of MN that could assist with spreading the word about AWWA and the YPC.
