A.     Past Action Items

                                                                  1.            Annual YP Summit Recap (Michelle Stockness – not present) – Michelle represented the MN YPC at the summit. She will recap her trip at the Fall Meeting.

                                                                  2.            Central District Social Recap (Lisa Vollbrecht) – The YPC sponsored a meet & greet at the Central District Operators School at Ruttgers in Brainerd. Lisa estimated that there were 40-50 people who attended. The $200 budget for supplies was all used. Chris Glassing will submit the receipt to Todd Butz.

                                                                  3.            Recap of MEESE Social (Bo Johnston – not present) – Bo attended the MEESE meeting and following social on April 3. Other YP members Jabin Joseph and Brian Zinnel attended part of the social. The YPC supplied pizza and drinks. Brian estimated that 10-20 grad students attended. Brian was able to have personal discussions with a couple grad students about the drinking water industry, career options, AWWA, etc. Bo must submit the receipt to Todd Butz if he has not already.

                                   V.      New Business

A.     Fall/Winter Facility Tour & Social

                                                                  1.            Lisa Vollbrecht will schedule and promote the next facility tour. Options that were discussed, in order of preference, are:

a.       Ethanol plant in Little Falls

b.      Cold Spring Brewery

c.       Waterous manufacturing facility

d.      St. Paul water treatment plant

                                                                  2.            As an alternate for the fall facility tour, Lisa suggested a tour for YPs in or around Duluth during the Annual Conference. Nothing was decided, but possibilities include a brewery in Superior or a water park.

B.     Workgroup Chair Position Reports

1.            Membership (Bo Johnston – not present)

- Discuss how to work with Membership Committee:

a)      Set up event for new members at Annual Conference – Todd Butz will check with the Membership Committee if they have anything planned or want to work together on an event to welcome first time conference attendees or new AWWA members.

b)      Work with Colleges and Tech Schools to set up student seminars – Brent Massmann mentioned that he visits St. Cloud Tech periodically and that students have a “WHAM” club for professional organizations with which the YPC could become involved. Lisa will work with Brent to organize a seminar or other event. Keith and Bill at St. Cloud Tech would be good contacts.

c)      Sponsoring a social event in conjunction with a MEESE event – we will continue to invite the MEESE group to our events and socials.

d)      Membership videos and marketing materials available through the Membership Committee – Todd Butz will bring the materials that the Membership Committee has prepared to the Fall Meeting for discussion.

2.            Social (Michelle Stockness/Lisa Vollbrecht)

- Michelle will continue to schedule happy hour socials and promote them with Evite. Another happy hour will be scheduled soon.

- Lisa will schedule and promote facility tours. See Item A above.

3.            Public Affairs (John Chlebeck)

- John has completed a draft of the World of Water poster competition application form. John will contact the Public Affairs Committee to check what channels are available for distributing the form. The form could potentially get into the Annual Conference packet as a colored loose, double-sided, one-sheet flier.

- It was decided to hold the first competition from mid-September to the end of October. The first competition will basically be a trial run. The intention is to hold the next competition in Spring 2009 in conjunction with Water Week and when kids are in school, which would allow enough time to assemble a calendar for sale at the Annual Conference in 2009.

4.            Fresh Ideas (Brad Forester – not present)

- Todd Butz recapped the Fresh Ideas presentations at ACE in Atlanta. Todd mentioned that the event was well attended and the MN AWWA participant, Ali Ahmadi, did a great job.

- Todd and Brad will talk with MEESE and Jon Eaton about distributing the application for this year’s competition. Applications will be accepted until August 31.

5.            Tournament (Doug Klamerus – not present)

- Format will be the same as last year.

- YPC will make cheat sheets available for first time players.

- Todd Butz will get an update from Doug.

C.     Other Items / Ideas

1.            Email communication discussion – Each year the Chair will send out a clean up email to the YPC contact list after the Annual Conference.

2.            YPC 2009 Budget – Todd Butz must submit the new budget to the Council by August 1. Todd will meet with Brian Zinnel and Lisa Vollbrecht to revise the budget. The budget will be very similar to 2008. The poker tournament budget/revenue will be updated to match expected numbers.

VI.      Announcements and Schedule Next Meeting

1.            YP members are encouraged to join other committees within MN AWWA.  Talk to Todd Butz for opportunities, such as the Small Systems, Membership, and IT Committees.

2.            Next Meeting – Lisa Vollbrecht will attempt to schedule the Fall Meeting in Duluth for the afternoon instead of the early morning time of the last couple years.
